Submission Wrestling (SW, also known as submission grappling or no-gi Jiu-Jitsu) is a general term describing the martial art and combat sport styles that specialize on takedowns and ground fighting. As with other styles of grappling, Submission Wrestling focuses on positional dominance and submissions (chokes and jointlocks).
Submission Wrestling brings together elements from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling, Judo and Sambo. SW uniform consists of board shorts and either a shirt or a rashguard. The lack of a traditional martial arts uniform (gi) narrows the grappler’s repertoire, and forces the techniques to be reality-based at all times. Submission Wrestling therefore translates directly into self-defense and mixed martial arts situations.
